Federal election days would be national holidays

Federal elections are held in even-numbered years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November.

This bill would make federal election days paid national holidays.

The Senate never acted on this bill

The Democracy Day Act was not acted on by the Senate. It expired when the 114th Congress ended in Jan. 2017.

Similar attempts to make voting easier for citizens

This bill modifies the 2002 Help America Vote Act.

The provision to make federal election day a national holiday was included in a more extensive 2005 Count Every Vote Act.
