Achtemeier made more than $4 million from disabling the pollution control software on hundreds of diesel trucks.

The software prevents a truck from running if it detects the pollution control hardware isn't functioning, so this allowed the truck's owner to disable that hardware.

The result was trucks emitting 30 to 1,200 times the amount of pollution as trucks with working systems.

Achtemeier could do this work remotely in about 2 hours. One of his companies operated under the name Voided Warranty Tuning and his advertisements included images of trucks spewing black exhaust.

"His motivation was money - but the rest of us will pay the price with dirty air and contamination in our soil and waterways," said Acting U.S. Attorney Teal Luthy Miller.

Adkins was a Frederick County, Virginia school board member who pleaded guilty to being in the U.S. Capitol for more than an hour during the Jan. 6, 2021 terror attack.

While in the Capitol, he drank beer and "danced around in the middle of a group of rioters, yelling, and chanting."

Recidivism Update:
In 2014, Adkins was convicted in Florida of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage. In 2022 he was arrested in Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated.

During the Jan. 6, 2021 terror attack on the U.S. Capitol., Alam was in the hallway leading to the Speaker's Lobby and helped shatter one of the windows that Ashli Babbitt was climbing through when she was fatally shot by a police officer.

He also was charged with attempting to profit from a piece of a window shutter taken from the Capitol.

On Jan. 21, 2025 the court dismissed the charges related to the Jan. 6 attack with prejudice at the request of the Trump administration.

Recidivism Update:
Ball was arrested for illegally possessing a gun and ammunition in 2023. The acting U.S. attorney in Florida moved to dismiss the charges, saying they would have been included in Trump's blanket pardon of Jan. 6 defendants. Ball had a previous record of domestic violence.

Wearing a TRUMP 2020 cowboy hat, he forcefully pushed against officers to enter the Capitol. He also raised his jacket to reveal what appeared to be a firearm.

He climbed the scaffolding at the Capitol and raised the gun over his head. He fired two shots into the sky.

On Jan. 22, 2025, the case against Banuelos was dismissed without prejudice in light of the blanket pardon issued by President Donald Trump.

Recidivism Update:
Banuelos was arrested for a 2018 violent sexual assault that lasted for 12 hours.

Betancur pleaded guilty to entering and remaining in the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021 terror attack.

He was on probation at the time for a 2019 burglary conviction. He had obtained permission from his parole officer by claiming he wanted to leave the state (Maryland) to distribute bibles in Washington, D.C..

During the attack he was wearing a yellow and black jacket, a mask, and a Proud Boys t-shirt. He also wore a required ankle monitor - which is how he was caught.

Among other things, Betancur stood on scaffolding holding a corner of a Confederate battle flag. While inside the Capitol, he held a "TRUMP" flag and helped rioters remove a chair from the building.

He posted videos of himself flashing a hand signal commonly used by white supremacy groups.

Betancur previously had used the "distributing bibles" excuse in 2020 to attend a pro-Trump rally as part of the Proud Boys.

Betancur legally added "Battisti" to his last name in 2023. He also has used the names Bryan Clooney and Maximo Clooney.

Recidivism Update:
Betancur was arrested for assaulting a person at a Washington D.C, Metro station. He also had faced charges in 2024 for violating an anti-stalking order.

Profited $350,000 from illicit trades

Buyer had created a consulting company after leaving Congress in 2011. He used confidential information of clients to trade stocks.

In 2018, while consulting for T-Mobile, he learned that the company planned to acquire Sprint. He used that proprietary information to purchase shares of Sprint, which he sold after the purchase for a profit of more than $125,000.

In 2019, while consulting for Guidehouse LLP, he learned that the company planned to acquire Navigant Consulting. He used that proprietary information to purchase shares of Navigant, which he sold after the purchase for a profit of more than $225,000.

During his 2023 trial he also provided false explanations for the trades.

Cannon was a former professional football player for the Houston Oilers, Oakland Raiders, and Kansas City Chiefs.

In 1983 he was charged with printing $6 million worth of counterfeit $100 bills. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

He was seen on video inside the Capitol grabbing a flagpole from another rioter, assaulted a police officer with it, and then handed it back to the other rioter.

Recidivism Update:
Colton was indicted for receiving material "where the production of such visual depiction involved the use of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct" in 2022.

Dejardins was charged with illegally entering the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021 terror attack.

He also was charged with attacking a police officer with a broken table leg.

Diesel Freak.- owned by Ryan Lalone - was charged with reprogramming the emission control systems of hundreds of heavy-duty diesel engines.

This violates the Clean Air Act. While this improves fuel economy and reduces maintenance costs, it also greatly increases emissions of toxic gases.

Lalone estimated that this practice made up 70 percent of Diesel Freak's business.

Elite Diesel Inc. is owned by diesel mechanic Troy Lake. In 2024, Lake was charged with instructing company employees to disable emissions control hardware on more than 325 heavy-duty commercial trucks from 2017 through 2020. This violated the Clean Air Act - which prohibits tampering with the devices.

According to a Department of Justice press release, tampering on these trucks "caused an illegal increase in pollutants" of at least:

Diesel exhaust is a known carcinogen and causes lung cancer. It also is associated with asthma and an increased risk of death from cardiovascular and respiratory disease. These effects disproportionately occur in low-income communities near highways and high-traffic areas, the press release states.

The pardon was prompted in part by a letter from Wyoming House Speaker Chip Neiman. It was issued in the name of the company, which also applies to Lake.

Gentile was convicted in 2024 of defrauding more than 10,000 investors out of $1.6 billion. His company, GPB Capital Holdings, effectively ran a Ponzi scheme - paying earlier investors with money from later investors rather than from investment returns.

He was sentenced to 7 years in prison, but had served just 12 days before being released.

Though Gentile's prison sentence was commuted, he was not pardoned. His conviction and other penalties remain on the books.

Geouge and his company sold tools that allowed customers to defeat emission control systems on thousands of vehicles in violation of the Clean Air Act.

According to the indictment against Geouge, when the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cited his company - Spartan Diesel Technologies - and ordered them to stop, he effectively dissolved the company and started a new one. The new company - Patriot Diagnostic - bought all of Spartan's equipment and hired all of their employees.

Geouge received more than $10 million from selling the illegal tools. The indictment also accused him of concealing that income from the EPA and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

He was one of the first people to breach the Capitol, and one of the first to violently assault police officers. He helped - along with rioter Ryan Samsel - lift linked metal bike-rack barricades - pushing them into the line of police.

During the hours he remained in the building, he pushed up against another police line, climbed through a broken window by the Senate wing door, and entered a senator's office.

Recidivism Update:
Grant was arrested in 2022 for illegally possessing an assault weapon and ammunition that were found while investigating him for driving while intoxicated.

Witnesses identified him as slamming a video camera on a tripod to the ground and stomping on it. Court documents also appear to identify him as one of three people attempting to pull an air conditioning unit from outside the Capitol building.

Huttle pleaded guilty to assaulting police officers during the Jan. 6, 2021 terror attack on the U.S. Capitol.

While entering the Capitol, Huttle forcibly jabbed a flagpole into an officer's stomach, knocking him down and causing serious injuries. He later struck another officer with the flagpole.

Huttle also attempted to grab an officer's gas mask and grabbed the officers baton attempting to rip it away.

Huttle was the uncle of Matthew Huttle.

Ryan Lalone and his company - Diesel Freak LLC - were charged with reprogramming the emission control systems of hundreds of heavy-duty diesel engines.

This violates the Clean Air Act. While this improves fuel economy and reduces maintenance costs, it also greatly increases emissions of toxic gases.

Lalone estimated that this practice made up 70 percent of Diesel Freak's business.

Lang was charged with assaulting police officers during the Jan. 6, 2021 terror attack on the U.S. Capitol.

According to the indictment, Lang repeatedly pushed, punched, and kicked at police officers inside the Capitol. He also slammed a door against one officer's head and struck officers with a metal baseball bat and stolen riot shield.

On Jan. 21, 2025 the case against Lang was dismissed with prejudice at the request of the Trump administration.

Recidivism Update:
At a demonstration 5 years after the January 6 attack, Lang was arrested for harassing and threatening one of the officers he allegedly attacked inside the Capitol.

Lazo pleaded guilty to spending 20 minutes in the Capitol building during the Jan. 6, 2021 terror attack.

He wore a black helmet, orange goggles, and an American flag draped around his neck like a cape. He carried a round shield with a small broom attached.

Recidivism Update:
In 2021 Lazo was charged with sexually assaulting a child. In 2026 he was arrested and charged with assault and battery.

Tim Leiweke was charged with violating anti-monopoly laws in depriving the University of Texas of a fair bidding process in the construction and operation of a new arena.

He had been investigated and indicted earlier this year - by President Donald Trump's own Department of Justice. The case had yet to go to trial.

She is married to Joseph Pastucci.

According to the indictment and Pastucci's guilty plea, Mangia posed in Rep. Nancy Pelosi's office while Pastucci took a photo of her. She also examined senators' papers in the Senate chamber.

When officers attempted to eject them from the Capitol, Mangia fell to the ground kicking and flailing at officers. When one carried her out, she kicked him in the groin and shoved him.

Mangie pleaded not guilty, then failed to appear for her status hearing. She was arrested in July 2024, but on Jan. 21, 2025, the court ordered the case dismissed without prejudice

Manwaring pleaded guilty to his actions during the Jan. 6, 2021 terror attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Manwaring entered the Capitol with his mother, Susan Manwaring. They remained in the building for 30 minutes before leaving.

Martin pleaded guilty in 2016 to repeatedly striking his 14-year-old daughter and in 2021 to choking his girlfriend and dragging her back into the house when she tried to flee. He also was convicted in 2024 of illegally possessing firearms and more than 500 rounds of ammunition.

Packer was arrested for allowing his dogs to maul several people. Four required hospitalization.

Pastucci pleaded guilty to assaulting police officers during the Jan. 6, 2021 terror attack on the U.S. Capitol.

He is married to Jeannette Mangia.

Wearing a "Veterans for Trump" hat, Pastucci marched toward the Capitol carrying a sign reading "FUCK BLM & ANTIFA STOP THE STEAL NOW! YOU TYRANT BASTARDS!!!"

While inside the Capitol building, he entered House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office and took a picture of Mangia posing in a chair.

They eventually made their way to the Senate Chamber where he and Mangia examined senators' documents. While leaving, they had a physical encounter with officers that included shoving an officer and were forced out of the building.

They returned, but then left due to effects of chemical agents in the air.

Recidivism Update:
In 2023, Pastucci was charged with raping a woman. In July 2025 the charges were dropped because his accuser could not be located.

Tina Peters was a Colorado county clerk convicted of orchestrating the tampering of voting machines in her county.

Proprietary information and passwords were copied from the machines. Three months later the stolen data surfaced at an event for those trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election won by Joe Biden.

At Peters' sentencing hearing, a county commissioner testified that Peters' actions cost the county almost $1.4 million.

Trump's pardon of Peters appears to be symbolic only. Though it pardons her for federal crimes, the crimes she was convicted of were Colorado state ones. Presidential pardons apply to federal crimes only.

He faught police for almost 2 hours, which included taking a riot shield, a metal baton, and helmets from officers. He also attacked officers with a white board and a wooden pole that was longer than 2 yards.

Recidivism Update:
Richmond has previous convictions, including a 2004 conviction for manslaughter while serving in the Army for shooting a hand-cuffed Iraqi in the head.

Samsel was convicted of assaulting a police officer during the Jan. 6, 2021 terror attack on the U.S. Capitol.

He was the first rioter to breach the restricted Capitol grounds. He helped other rioters lift a metal barricade and push it into the line of officers.

One officer was struck in the face and stumbled backwards. She hit her head twice - once on a metal handrail and once on the steps behind her - and still suffers from long-term effects.

Samsel also assaulted police with his "Rambo Trump" flag, grabbed another officer's shield, hurled a wooden plank at a police line, and threw a pole at another police line.

On Jan. 21, 2025, before he could be sentenced, the case was dismissed with prejudice at the request of the Trump administration

Former Rep. George Santos was indicted on several charges of campaign fraud and identity theft. He pleaded guilty to some of the charges and was sentenced to more than 7 years in prison.

Joseph Schwartz operated a chain of nursing homes. He withheld at least $39 million in payroll taxes from 15,000 employees that he didn't report or pay to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

He pled guilty in November 2024, and in April 2025, he was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Schwartz had served 3 months of that sentence when President Donald Trump pardoned him.

The conviction Schwartz was serving time for, however, was only a part of his history of defrauding the federal government.

On Sept. 26, 2025 Smith pleaded guilty to filing fraudulent tax returns.

Smith is a tax preparer in Winter Haven, Florida. In 2023 and 2025 he, along with four others, filed almost 100 falsified returns that claimed millions of dollars more in losses than the actual amounts.

Smith personally profited $274,000 in unwarranted refunds from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). He was sentenced to 6-1/2 years in prison.

Webster - a retired police officer - was convicted of assaulting a police officer during the Jan 6, 2021 terror attack on the U.S. Capitol.

While entering the Capitol, Webster shoved a metal gate into the officer’s body. He forcefully swung a flagpole toward the officer. The officer managed to wrest the flagpole away. Webster then broke through the metal barricade, tackled the officer to the ground, and tried to remove his helmet and gas mask, choking him. During this attack, the officer struggled to breathe.

Woods pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer during the Jan. 6, 2021 terror attack on the U.S. Capitol.

While observing the officer chasing an individual who had sprayed her with a chemical irritant, Woods "lowered his shoulder and rammed into Officer J.F., knocking her off her feet and sending her crashing into a downed bicycle barricade."

He also assaulted a journalist who was attempting to walk away from the Capitol grounds. Woods "took a running start and hit G.P. with a blindside shoulder-tackle, knocking G.P. to the ground and causing him to drop his camera."

Recidivism Update:
Woods was convicted of reckless homicide. On Nov. 8, 2022, he drove his GMC Sierra the wrong way on an interstate, killing a 35-year-old woman.

Yates pushed away barricades in order to enter the Capitol. While inside, he joined other rioters in entering the Rotunda, pumping his fist as they surged forward.
